It was hot.
It was Texas, man it was hot.
They used to say it was 110° in the shade
and you couldn't find any shade.
We all got big hats,
and the guys all had big shoes.
They all wore boots,
engineers' boots, midcalf
with big buckles
and big thick soles, cork soles,
all rubber and no nails
'cause they were afraid of sparks
around the gas wells.
Everything was wood on the drill platform,
and everyone wore these funny shoes.
I couldn't wait till payday,
get me a pair of those shoes.
All I had was farmer shoes,
farmer shoes from Michigan,
laced shoes.
